Chief Economist and Head of Research, Goldman Sachs
German economist Jan Hatzius has set Goldman Sachs's house view on the US economy since 2005. His team made its name by warning early in 2007 about the consequences of the housing market, and again by holding against the consensus after 2022 that a recession would be avoided.
Where most names on this list offer a personal opinion, Hatzius produces the numbers institutional investors calibrate their own assumptions against. His forecasts for growth, inflation and the Fed's rate path are used by the financial press as the benchmark other predictions are measured against.
