CEO, Berkshire Hathaway
Greg Abel is the Canadian executive Warren Buffett personally named as his successor. Since January 2026 he has had the final say over all of Berkshire Hathaway's businesses and investments. At his first annual meeting as CEO, in May 2026, he did most of the talking and stressed continuity: no break-up of the conglomerate and no departure from the investment approach he learned from Buffett.
Anyone wanting to know what happens to Berkshire's cash pile today should be listening to Abel, not Buffett. He is also new in the role, which means every statement he makes still carries information about how he intends to do things differently.
